Reiki (pronounced RAY-key) is a gentle Japanese energy practice that supports relaxation, stress reduction, and overall well-being.
Developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 1900s, Reiki is traditionally understood as working with life force energy to support balance within the body, mind, and spirit.
The word Reiki combines two Japanese words:
Rei – Universal or spiritual wisdom
Ki – Life force energy, similar to Qi in Traditional Chinese Medicine or Prana in yoga traditions
Together, Reiki can be understood as universal life force energy.
Reiki is gentle, non-invasive, and does not require you to follow a particular belief system. You don't have to understand Reiki before experiencing it, and you don't have to "believe" in it for your experience to be meaningful.
For many people, Reiki simply creates space to pause, breathe, reconnect, and be present with themselves.
Everyone experiences Reiki differently, and there is no single way to experience a session.
People often turn to Reiki as a way to support:
Reiki can also be incorporated alongside other wellness practices and conventional medical care as part of a holistic approach to your well-being.
Reiki is not intended to diagnose, treat, or replace medical or mental health care. It can simply offer another layer of supportive care as you move through your own wellness journey.
There are many ideas and misconceptions about Reiki, so it's worth knowing what you can expect.
Reiki is:
You don't need to arrive with a particular intention or expectation.
You can simply come as you are.
Every Reiki session is different because every person is different.
During a session, you may notice warmth, coolness, tingling, gentle pulsing, or sensations that feel like energy moving through the body.
You may experience a deep sense of relaxation, emotional release, mental clarity, or simply the feeling of being able to finally slow down.
Some people notice colours, images, memories, or other subtle sensations. Others don't notice anything specific at all.
And that's okay.
There is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki.
Your experience is your own, and it may be different from one session to the next.
Sometimes the most meaningful part of Reiki isn't what you notice during the session, but how you feel afterward.
Reiki may be a wonderful choice if you're looking for a gentle way to:
You don't need to be experiencing a particular problem to receive Reiki.
Sometimes you simply know you need to slow down.
Whether you're completely new to Reiki or returning for ongoing support, each session is personalized to meet you where you are.
At Iam Light Energy Reiki, your session is not simply time spent lying on a table receiving Reiki.
Each session is approached intuitively and may incorporate additional energy-based practices based on what feels appropriate for you that day.
This may include aura cleansing, chakra balancing, tuning fork work, meditation, intuitive guidance, or other supportive energy practices.
Before your session, I also take time to connect intuitively with the energy of your upcoming appointment, allowing space for any insights or themes that may be helpful to explore together.
During and after your session, there is time for conversation and integration.
You may leave with reflections, intuitive insights, or simple practices to explore between sessions as you continue your own journey.
Your session is not about fitting you into a particular process. It's about creating space for you to slow down, reconnect, and receive the support that feels right for you.
Whether you're seeking relaxation, emotional balance, a deeper connection with yourself, or simply a little more space to breathe, Reiki offers an opportunity to pause and reconnect.
Every session is personalized to meet you where you are, with compassion, presence, and care.
Sometimes experiencing Reiki creates a curiosity to understand it more deeply.
If you've been wondering what it would feel like to learn Reiki for yourself, you don't need to know where the journey will take you before you begin.
You simply need to feel curious.
My Usui Reiki Level 1 (Shoden) Certification & Training provides a supportive introduction to the traditional teachings and practices of Reiki.
You'll learn how to work with Reiki for yourself, develop a meaningful personal practice, and explore how you may eventually share Reiki with your loved ones or, if you choose, future clients.
Private training is available for those who prefer an individualized learning experience, as well as small-group training for those who enjoy learning and practicing alongside others.
Every Reiki practitioner began somewhere.
Sometimes it starts simply with curiosity, an open mind, and the feeling that it's time to explore something new.
